It always takes a few playings to reveal the best of your albums Mr Currie – and your latest is no exception and I expect many of the songs will infiltrate my aural conscience over the next few weeks and months.
But why blunt your greatest asset (your voice) with horrible compression throughout the album? The harsh, dry result removes the rich overtones that contribute much to its emotional power. I feel the same sense of when I heard the vinyl pressing of ‘Change Everything’ in 1992, which in comparison to ‘Waking Hours’ sounded wrung dry and dead. Was it your decision to choose this vocal sound or your producers?
Mr Postie delivered my CD and signed print today.
Loving the new album – Justin’s voice and amazing song-writing are always a sublime combination and this is a perfect mix of haunting poetry and memorable melodies. I Love The Sea is stuck in my head… and I love it!
I can’t help but feel you’re suggesting there are outlets we shouldn’t immediately think of giving our money to…
